Our Achievements

Sponsorships

Through Mukti Australia, Australian donors have sponsored over 850 destitute and abandoned girls and women in the past 10 years.

Mukti Australia is also one of the only development organisations in Australia that has a ’ sponsor a grannie’ program. This program allows Australians to support elderly women, many of whom are blind, disabled, or have been abandoned by their families.

Volunteers

In the last 10 years, Mukti has sent over 200 volunteers to support the work of Mukti in India. On average, Mukti sends around 30 volunteers each year.

Many of these short term volunteers are under 35 years old, which illustrates another of Mukti’s achievements – bringing a greater awareness of poverty and justice issues to the younger generation of Australian Christians. Young Australians who return from Mukti share their experiences and become advocates on behalf of women in India who have been denied a voice as a result of poverty or marginalisation.

Projects

Mukti also runs a variety of short-term and ongoing projects addressing issues such as health and wellbeing, education and training, housing and organisational development.

Thanks to our generous supporters, there has been a steady increase in the number of projects completed. Click below to view the projects that have been completed over the last few years.

First Mukti beneficiary to come to Australia

In 2014, the first Mukti beneficiary came to Australia on deputation to share her story and about the work of Mukti in India.

Mukti intervened in Ruthika’s life when she was a very young girl, and she has lived in the Mukti community in Pune. She is now undertaking her Masters in Social Work, Ruthika’s story is one of empowerment and redemption, and she credits Mukti with giving her opportunities to pursue an alternative path to one of poverty and exploitation in the sex trade. Ruthika’s deputation to Australia is incredible as it is an opportunity for us Aussies to see Mukti’s impact on the lives on girls in India in the flesh!
